Setting up pricing for your products

Pricing tiers on RPG Trader are highly flexible, with a variety of configurations. You can price your work however you like.

Adding pricing tiers

On the Edit product page, scroll down to the Pricing section. Here you can add as many pricing tiers as you like.

:information_source: Note that a product needs at least one pricing tier, or to be marked as crowdfuding in order to be published.

Configuring pricing tiers

Setting a tier name and description is optional, and a good way to help your buyers know what they’re getting. If no name is set, tiers will be labelled “Tier 1”, “Tier 2”, etc.

Setting prices

Prices can be anything you like, from $0/free and up.

“Pay what you want” pricing

You can use “pay what you want” pricing by selecting the Allow buyers to enter their own price checkbox. Buyers will be able to input how much they wish to spend on the product.

With this in place, you can then set a minimum price and/or a suggested price:

Including files and books

For each pricing tier, you can select which files and/or physical books buyers will receive when they purchase the tier. You can have the same files and books in multiple tiers.

When including physical books, the minimum price for the tier is equal to the print cost of the book (which will be shown on the pricing tier for your reference). For a preview of the print cost for a particular book, you can use our print price calculator that fetches live printing and shipping costs.

Limiting purchase quantities

You can choose to set the Max copies available on any pricing tier. When this is set, the product page will indicate how many copies are left to purchase.

You can then configure optional automatic restock rules by clicking the link shown below the Max copies field once it has a value stored.

Automatic restock can be implemented in two ways:

  1. Add X new copies whenever the tier sells out - when this tier is sold out, the number of copies specified will be added to the max copies available.
  2. After every X sales, add X new copies - whenever any tier in this product is purchased for more than $0 the specified number of times, the max available copies will be increased accordingly.

This allows you to make use of what is commonly referred to as “community copies” - free copies available in limited numbers that automatically replenish based on sales.

Making tiers private

By selecting the checkbox labelled Only the creator and collaborators can purchase this tier, you can keep the pricing tier private. This can be helpful for ordering a copy of your book to test it out, or previewing what a new tier looks like on the product page before making it available to buyers.
