This looks like an inconsistency where if you leave the price field blank it just says “Free”, but if you fill in “0” in the price field, then it displays as “$0”.
That’s an inconsistency we’ll patch, so thanks for bringing it to out attention.
The other thing is that having a demo version of a product for $0, means your product is listed as “From $0”, which isn’t technically correct, since the demo version isn’t the product itself. We’ve had a few people ask if this can be changed, so that demo tiers (or similar) aren’t included in the price display calculation like that.
I like that idea, and I think it’s worth exploring, so we’ll look into the best way to apply it - possibly the option to mark a pricing tier as a demo, so it doesn’t impact the pricing display, unless it’s the only pricing tier available.
The result for a product with a $0 demo tier, and a $20 priced tier, would be that the price display would just say “$20” instead of “From $0”.
We’ve just patched this inconsistency, so prices will always save as 0 and instead of blank. The social media images and product cards will still show as “Free” if all pricing tiers are all $0/free, and “From $0” if there are higher tiers too.
All pricing tiers have a checkbox labelled “This tier is a demo version of the product.” If that is selected for a tier, then that pricing tier won’t be factored into the calculations for the price displayed on social media images or in search results. This means that a demo tier won’t cause your product to say “From $0”.
Additionally, the product cards in search results will say “Free demo available” beneath the price if a pricing tier is set to be a demo. If the demo tier is not free (unlikely, but possible), then it just says “Demo available”.

The speed at which the site improves is impressive
I have some considerations about this fix, though. Community copies also set the price to “from $0”, and I wouldn’t consider them a demo. Moreover, it would say “Demo available” even if they’re sold out, which could be frustrating to customers.
A change in the wording could work: “This is a free tier…” But then we’ll lose the “Demo available” label. Not sure which is the best solution here
Technically, community copies do make the product available for $0, so to say “from $0” when a community copies tier exists is accurate and correct. It is available at that price (until the copies sell out), so it’s fair to advertise it as such.
If a tier is sold out, it won’t be included in the price display calculations.
So if a community copies tier (or any other) is sold out, the social media image will no longer include it when calculating what to display for the price. The image will be updated at the time the last copy in the tier sells out.
Of course, social media platforms will have the older image cached, so existing shares will take time to be updated. Any new shares will use the updated image.
With all that in mind, I feel like the current solution is quite workable, and also accurate for what is happening with the products. We’re pen to other ideas here, if you feel strongly about them
Oh, sorry. I’m sure I checked, and that sold-out community copies still counted for the minimum price. My bad. It works as intended, then. Thanks for your time!
