Tax can be an area filled with a lot of uncertainty and unknowns, especially for indie creators.

Here are a few commonly asked questions about tax and how it works when you sell your work through RPG Trader.

Does RPG Trader collect sales tax?

RPG Trader collects sales tax at checkout for regions in which it is required.

We may charge sales tax in more regions as the marketplace grows or as tax regulations evolve. We monitor this closely and will update our processes as needed.

Do I need to charge tax on my products?

No, you don’t. RPG Trader handles any sales tax collected at checkout. Sellers should not add tax to their product prices.

When do I pay tax on my earnings from RPG Trader?

You must declare your income as normal as required in your region, including your earnings from RPG Trader.

As tax requirements vary by country and individual circumstances, we recommend consulting a qualified tax professional if you have questions about your tax obligations.

Are payouts reported to my local tax authority?

RPG Trader does not currently issue tax reporting forms (such as IRS Form 1099 for US residents) or report creator earnings directly to tax authorities.

Creators are responsible for understanding and meeting their own tax obligations and should retain records of their sales, earnings, and payouts for tax reporting purposes.

I need sales, earnings, and payout records for my tax declarations. Do you provide those?

Yes. You can view your sales and earnings at any time in your dashboard. A CSV of sales can be exported with any time range or product filters you need. You can also export a CSV of your earnings payouts.

If there’s a specific report or set of data you need, please email support@rpgtrader.com with the details, and we’ll see what we can do to help.

Who is the merchant of record for sales through RPG Trader?

RPG Trader is operated by Ten Acre Games. Ten Acre Games is the merchant of record for sales made through the marketplace. Customers purchase products through RPG Trader, and creators receive their earnings from those sales according to the marketplace terms.

In regions where sales tax is charged at checkout, it is paid to Ten Acre Games.

There’s a specific document I need for tax in my region - can you provide it for me?

Possibly. Email support@rpgtrader.com with the details and we’ll see how we can help.
